The Vula Science Project

The Vula Science Project supports the teachers, and the teaching, of Physical Science at under-resourced schools throughout the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal.

The project strives to:

  • Support, encourage and assist Physical Science teachers in the use of technology and relevant laboratory equipment (both Physics and Chemistry) in their teaching,
  • Create awareness and encourage teachers to explore ways of adopting current trends in science education in their teaching,
  • Provide opportunities for learners in Grades 10 to 12 to be exposed to relevant teaching materials in their lessons, to gain hands-on experience in conducting science experiments, and to be challenged to develop their thinking and analytical skills, and
  • Make a difference in the lives of the people with whom it interacts.

Vula Maths Project

The Vula Mathematics Project supports and develops Mathematics teachers and teaching in KwaZulu-Natal. There are twelve educational districts in the province, and teachers from seven of these districts have attended training workshops organised by the project in the past ten years.

The Vula Intern Project

The Intern Project, a joint Hilton College and Vula Programme project, allows for a group of aspiring teachers-in-training to spend a year “in-service”, while studying towards the completion of their education studies.
